Tomorrow marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day. It is a time to recognize the intergenerational harm caused by the residential school system that continues to impact Indigenous families and communities. There will be a commemorative gathering on Parliament Hill from 1:00 – 2:30pm. We encourage members to wear orange shirts and participate. Those interested can join CUASA and the Ottawa and District Labour Council (ODLC); we will be meeting outside the Labour Council office (280 Metcalfe Street) at 12:30pm and walking together to Parliament Hill.

CUASA Statement on All Out September 30 and Orange Shirt Day
The Carleton University Academic Staff Association (CUASA) continues to stand in solidarity with students, faculty and staff across Canada who are, today, participating in All Out September 30 to denounce racism, colonialism and affect real change on university campuses.
CUASA continues to encourage its members to support the All Out September 30 campaign by attending webinars, offering space in classes for students to get involved during class and to participate in the campaign activities whenever possible. CUASA also encourages its members to wear an orange shirt while on-line today in order to help raise awareness of Canada’s dark history of human rights abuses through the residential school system.
CUASA continues to do its part by actively working towards addressing racism on campus. CUASA’s Anti-Racism Working Group is leading this initiative. To find out more about this committee’s important work, please contact the working group’s Chair, Brenda Vellino, Vice-President ([email protected]) or CUASA’s Equity Chair, Dawn Moore ([email protected]).
