CUASA Mailing List Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to the CUASA Mailing List. The following is a list of frequently asked questions and list rules.
What is this list?
This is a mailing list for the members of the Carleton University Academic Staff Association (CUASA). It is a low-cost way for the CUASA office and executive to get information to the CUASA membership quickly. The list is run by the CUASA office for information purposes only. It is not a forum for discussion, conference notices, rental ads, or a means for any non-member to pass information to CUASA members.
Do I have to be on it?
No. Being on the list is voluntary. All CUASA members are automatically added when they join the university. If you wish to be removed, simply contact the mailing list administrator, Deborah Jackson.
How do I subscribe, or change my email address; or advise CUASA of my temporary absence?
Send a note to the CUASA Office using one of the following methods and changes will be posted as soon as possible.
I am going away for a bit, should I change my address or temporarily suspend my subscription?
That would be an excellent idea. If you don't check your mailbox regularly, it will fill up. It will then begin to generate "bouncing messages" which will cause the CUASA office headaches.
I was on the list, but now I don't get any mail. What happened?
Most likely your mailbox filled up and you were suspended. Barring that, it is possible that we have the wrong address for you. In any case, contact the CUASA office as outlined in number 3, and you will be added a.s.a.p.
Can I send email to the list?
No. This Lyris list-serve is a one-way delivery system and only the administrators can post information to this server. It is not possible to hit the reply button to respond to messages received via the Lyris list-serve. If you receive any information you wish to respond to, could you please send your response to cuasa@carleton.ca. If this is too impersonal you may reply to one of CUASA's staff.
I am helping to organize a conference, and I think this would be an excellent place to post the notice. Do you mind?
In a word, yes. This list was created as a way for CUASA to get information to its membership quickly. It is by its nature a low traffic list. If we were to allow conference notices, rental ads, and other off topic posts, people would begin to unsubscribe, thereby reducing the effectiveness of this list.
This is why the list was set up as a LISTSERVE. Only the list owner can send email to the list.
There are better forums in the university to get your notice out. You may contact DUC - Internal Communication in the Department of University Communications to get a notice posted on Today@Carleton.
I have a problem with the mailing list administrator, whom do I contact?
The mailing list administrator is our office manager, Deborah Jackson. She is usually prompt in answering your requests. But there are times that it gets busy in the office, so if you haven't heard from her after a few days, send another request. If that doesn't work, or your problem extends beyond that, contact the CUASA's Executive Director, Kimberly Benoit.
